This week we’re joined by Ben Dean, founder of Raven Records and author of Uncover Satan, Recover Thyself: A Rational Satanic Recovery.

After years of struggling with alcohol, Ben walked into Alcoholics Anonymous at 24 and began a recovery journey that would eventually lead him to build his own approach around Rational Satanism, personal responsibility and the idea that recovery doesn’t have to look the same for everyone. His book explores how Satanic philosophy can sit alongside the principles of the 12 Steps, while also bringing in science, exercise, nutrition, ritual and a much broader understanding of addiction. (Satanic Recovery)

We get into what “Satanic recovery” actually means, the misconceptions around Satanism, where Ben agrees and disagrees with traditional recovery programmes, and why finding a recovery system that genuinely speaks to you can matter more than following somebody else’s rulebook.

We also talk music, running a record label, identity after addiction and the strange ways our lives can completely change once we stop drinking.

A properly fascinating conversation about belief, rebellion, responsibility and finding your own route out.
